This policy explains what information Chasing Nevrland collects when you visit chasingnevrland.com, how it is used, and what choices you have.
Information you give me
Comments. If you leave a comment, I collect the name, email address and any website you enter, plus your IP address and browser user agent. This helps catch spam. Comment data may be kept indefinitely so follow-up replies stay readable.
Contact. If you email me, I receive whatever you send, typically your name, email address and your message. I use it to reply to you and nothing else. I do not sell it, and I do not add you to a mailing list without your asking.
Email list. If you subscribe, I collect your email address and store it with my email provider. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you immediately.
Information collected automatically
Cookies. Cookies are small files stored in your browser. They are used to remember your comment details so you do not retype them, to keep the site working properly, and to understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.
Analytics. I use Google Analytics to understand which pages people read and how they arrive. It collects things like pages visited, time on site, approximate geographic location, device type and referring site. It is not used to identify you personally. Google’s own privacy practices are documented at policies.google.com/privacy.
Server logs. My host, SiteGround, keeps standard access logs including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.
Embedded content. Posts may embed content from other sites, such as videos or maps. Those sites can collect data about you exactly as if you had visited them directly, including through their own cookies and tracking. I do not control what they collect.
Affiliate links
Some links are affiliate links. When you click one, the retailer may set a cookie identifying that you arrived from this site, so any resulting purchase is credited here. This is how the site is funded, and it costs you nothing. What those retailers collect is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one. See the Affiliate Disclosure for the full picture.
Advertising
This site does not currently display third-party advertising.
How information is used
To publish and reply to comments, to answer your messages, to send emails you asked for, to understand what content is useful, to keep the site secure and working, and to meet legal obligations. That is the complete list.
Who it is shared with
I do not sell your personal information. It is shared only with the service providers who make the site work, such as my host, analytics provider, email provider and comment spam filter, and only as needed. Information may also be disclosed if legally required.
How long it is kept
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely. Messages are kept as long as needed to handle the conversation. Email subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Analytics data follows Google’s retention settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request a copy of the personal data held about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to opt out of its sale (it is not sold), and to withdraw consent you previously gave. This includes residents of the European Economic Area under GDPR and residents of California under the CCPA. To make a request, email contact@chasingnevrland.com. Some data may need to be retained for legal reasons.
Children’s privacy
This site is written for parents planning family travel. It is not directed to children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, email contact@chasingnevrland.com and it will be deleted.
Security
This site uses HTTPS throughout and relies on its host’s security measures. No website can promise perfect security, but reasonable steps are taken to protect what is held.
Changes
This policy may be updated. When it is, the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will be noted on the site.
